15th May 2009 - School Fire in Wrexham:
An Investigation has today been launched into the cause of a fire at a school in Wrexham. A portable classroom at St Christopher's
School went up in flames just after 8.30pm last night. Three crews from Wrexham and one form Chirk rushed to the scene in
Stockwell Road. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Nobody was in the school at the time and no was injured.

14th May 2009 - Recent Statistics:
Latest figures from the Arson Prevention Bureau (APB) show that each week 20 arson attacks are made on schools, causing over
£80 million in insured damages every year. Notably, this figure does not take into account other less quantifiable costs such as loss
of coursework and the stress caused to those affected. Further figures from the National Union of Teachers (NUT) report that
related costs of major school fires have spiralled by more than 170% over the past 10 years.

8th May 2009 - Fines issued for school fire safety incident:
A building company and a school have been fined after a worker was burnt while removing an oil tank.
R Harvey Builders, of Redstone Industrial Estate, Boston, was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of 3800 by Skegness
magistrates court when admitted failing to carry out a risk assessment, which may highlight the need for fire safety training.
In addition, St Bedes Catholic Science College, of Tollfield Road, Boston, was issued a £2,000 fine and £900 in costs for failing to
plan work properly and for not giving the construction firm adequate instructions.

14th April 2009 - Fire in School causes £350,000 damage:
A janitor set his own school on fire causing £350,000 worth of damage to the building, Inverness Sheriff Court has heard. David
Russell, 27, admitted to wilfully setting ablaze a quantity of cardboard boxes on the stage at Inverness High School on 8 October
last year. The fire closed the secondary school prior to the October break. At one point, six fire appliances and more than 30 fire
fighters were involved in tackling the incident.

2nd April 2009 - School Fire in Merseyside:
Police were investigating today after fire swept through a Merseyside school. Three fire crews tackled the blaze at Park primary
school, in Woodstock Road, Wallasey, which spread to three classrooms. The crews, from Birkenhead and Upton fire stations, used
breathing apparatus and were supported by Merseyside fire service's incident management unit and hazardous materials unit
(HAZMAT) over fears they could be exposed to asbestos in the school.

12th March 2009 - School Fire in Langley:
Fire Engines from Blackley, Heywood, Bury and Hyde attended to find a well developed fire which had spread through the ground
floor of the school. Crews wearing breathing apparatus used jets to bring the fire under control.

22nd Feb 2009 - School Fire in Hamilton:
Firefighters battled through the night to put out a blaze at St Peter's Primary school last night. Extensive damage was caused to
the rear of the school which was acting as an annex to decanted pupils from Our Lady's and St Anne's primary.

20th feb 2009 - Classroom damaged in Sparkhill school fire:
A single storey outbuilding used as a classroom sustained 10 per cent damage after a fire at Springfield Infant School in Sparkbrook,
Birmingham. Crews from Highgate and Billesley fire stations attended - as well as colleagues from West Midlands Police - and used a
hose reel and a covering jet to extinguish the blaze.

21st Feb 2009 - Fire at University of Winchester:
Fire involving a grill pan in the kitchen was discovered One hosereel and four breathing apparatus sets were used to extinguish the
fire. Two fire appliances from Winchester and one from Eastleigh attended along with Winchester's Special Equipment Unit.

5th Feb 2009 - School Fire in Dagenham:
Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at an infant school in Langley Crescent, Dagenham this morning. The fire badly damaged the
school's roof and ground floor and at its height, eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters were dealing with the blaze.
